Vernonia noveboracensis | New York ironweed

New York ironweed is not for the dainty garden. She is big and bold and beautiful and won’t be overlooked. If you have a large garden or naturalized meadow with some room, ironweed’s bright magenta blooms atop 6’—and sometimes taller—plants create a striking focal point or a colorful backdrop. Plants will stay shorter and flower a little later if stems are cut back in June. Looks stunning with goldenrods.
