Corylus americana

$26.00

Corylus americana | American hazelnut

American hazelnut is an excellent native shrub to use in a deciduous screen or for naturalizing along the woodland edge. With a suckering habit, this species can be expected to reach 8-12’ tall, and is great for filling space. It is happy and produces best fall color in full sun, but is surprisingly tolerant of more shady areas and has a wide range of uses across all types of northeastern properties. Showy male catkins appear in early spring; edible nuts mature in fall. Suckers can be pruned to maintain a more compact form, but we recommend using this one where a thicket is desired.
